The Alamo

This 4.2 acre complex features the old mission where a small band of Texians held out for 13 days against the Mexican army of General Antonio L-pez de Santa Anna. El Mercado/Market Square

Browse through the 32 shops at "El Mercado" (The Market), an area patterned after an authentic Mexican mercado. In addition, there are 80 specialty shops in Farmers Market Plaza. Market Square is also the scene of many Hispanic festivals where food and beverage booths spring up alongside the Guadalajara lamps and the strains of mariachi music blend with the excitement of Mexican dances. Free admission. Hours: 10am-8pm, summer; 10am-6pm, winter. Stores closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and Easter.

The Museo Alameda

*Near El Mercado

The first formal affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute, the museum tells the story of the Latino experience in America. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm (8pm on Wednesday) and Sunday 12pm-6pm. Closed Monday. Admission fee.

Open Air San Antonio Trolley

*1-2 blocks

A great way to get around the heart of the city. You can use it as your primary mode of transportation with its "hop on, hop off" service or take a formal trolley tour of the area. All trolleys can be boarded within 1-2 blocks of the hotel.

Wax Museum and Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

*1 block away on Alamo Plaza

The Plaza Wax Museum features a collection of wax figures displayed within themed sections of Hollywood, Children's Land of Make Believe, Freedom's Journey (contains a 66-foot wall mural dedicated to our country's history), Horror (optional section), History, and Religion (this section contains The Passion of Christ - the Last Supper, Crucifixion and Resurrection and much more). Ripley's Believe It Or Not! allows you to discover one-of-a-kind oddities, curiosities, and illusions gathered from all over the world by Robert Ripley. San Antonio Children's Museum

Billed as the place where children play to learn and adults learn to play, this fabulous center offers a wide variety of permanent and visiting exhibits including an imaginary flight, a cloud room for dreaming, a tooth booth, a kid-powered elevator, and an exhibit which shows how your skeleton moves when you ride a bike!

Hemisfair/Tower of the Americas

*5 blocks away, just south of the Convention Center

The Tower of the Americas, 750 ft. tall, offers a panoramic view of San Antonio and the surrounding Hill Country. Glass-walled elevators ascend over 500 feet to the restaurant and observation level. It was the theme structure for HemisFair in 1968, and symbolizes the progress made by the confluence of civilizations in the Western Hemisphere.

McNay Art Museum

The first museum of modern art in Texas, it highlights works by Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, and Georgia O'Keeffe.

San Antonio Museum of Art

Collections span 5000 years of human inspiration and creativity. Housed in a historic structure, originally one of San Antonios brewery, along the banks of the San Antonio River.

Witte Museum

King William Historic District

Aztec Theater
