The Museo Alameda*Near El Mercado The first formal affiliate of the Smithsonian Institute, the museum tells the story of the Latino experience in America. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm (8pm on Wednesday) and Sunday 12pm-6pm. Closed Monday. Admission fee. Open Air San Antonio Trolley*1-2 blocks A great way to get around the heart of the city. You can use it as your primary mode of transportation with its "hop on, hop off" service or take a formal trolley tour of the area. All trolleys can be boarded within 1-2 blocks of the hotel. Wax Museum and Ripley's Believe It Or Not!*1 block away on Alamo Plaza The Plaza Wax Museum features a collection of wax figures displayed within themed sections of Hollywood, Children's Land of Make Believe, Freedom's Journey (contains a 66-foot wall mural dedicated to our country's history), Horror (optional section), History, and Religion (this section contains The Passion of Christ - the Last Supper, Crucifixion and Resurrection and much more). Ripley's Believe It Or Not! allows you to discover one-of-a-kind oddities, curiosities, and illusions gathered from all over the world by Robert Ripley. There are over 500 exhibits - one of the largest in the world! Open daily. San Antonio Children's Museum*3 blocks Billed as the place where children play to learn and adults learn to play, this fabulous center offers a wide variety of permanent and visiting exhibits including an imaginary flight, a cloud room for dreaming, a tooth booth, a kid-powered elevator, and an exhibit which shows how your skeleton moves when you ride a bike! Hemisfair/Tower of the Americas*5 blocks away, just south of the Convention Center The Tower of the Americas, 750 ft. tall, offers a panoramic view of San Antonio and the surrounding Hill Country. Glass-walled elevators ascend over 500 feet to the restaurant and observation level. It was the theme structure for HemisFair in 1968, and symbolizes the progress made by the confluence of civilizations in the Western Hemisphere. McNay Art Museum*3 miles The first museum of modern art in Texas, it highlights works by Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, and Georgia O'Keeffe. San Antonio Museum of Art*2 miles Collections span 5000 years of human inspiration and creativity. Housed in a historic structure, originally one of San Antonios brewery, along the banks of the San Antonio River. Witte Museum*2.5 miles Offers unique exhibits and experiences in science, natural history and culture. Set in beautiful Brackenridge Park. The campus features historic buildings and the HEB Science Treehouse. King William Historic District*1 mile south A neighborhood rich in history and cultural diversity. San Antonio Zoo*2.5 miles Home to more than 3500 animals, representing over 750 different species on 56 acres in Brackenridge Park Brackenridge Park*2.5 miles Home of our Zoo, Witte Museum, the city's Brackenridge Golf Course and the two-mile miniature zoo train. Areas for picnicking, hiking, jogging, biking and much more. Convention, Entertainment and Sporting VenuesHenry B. Gonzalez Convention Center*3 blocks south of the hotel The newly expanded 1.3 million square foot convention center offers over 440,000 gross square feet of exhibit space.
Alamodome*6 blocks A multi-use sports and entertainment facility, located adjacent to the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center. Home to numerous NCAA Final Four Tournaments, The Alamo Bowl, The US Army All American Bowl and many other events annually. Majestic Theater*Just down Houston Street Named a State and National Historic Landmark, this is one of the few remaining vintage, atmospheric vaudeville movie palaces. The Majestic Theater has been renovated as a prime theater for the performing arts and is now home to the San Antonio Symphony and the AT&T Broadway Series. Individual concerts and events are also showcased. Aztec Theater*5 blocks The Aztec Theater is a showpiece of architecture that will have you step back in time when movies were shown in grand palaces. Built in 1926, it is the only surviving exotic-themed movie palace in Texas and home to special performing arts events. Retama Park*15 miles northeast Live horse racing featuring American Quarter Horses, and daily simulcasting of other races nationwide. Verizon Ampitheatre*15 miles northeast Outdoor entertainment venue with a vast schedule of concerts and shows featuring national touring acts. AT&T Center*4 miles east Home of the 4-time world champion San Antonio Spurs, and the San Antonio Silver Stars (WNBA), Rampage (AHL), and the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo (held each February). Military BasesSan Antonio (also known as Military City USA) is home to a number of military bases, medical centers and training facilities.
